It was the worst day of Laura's life: the day her five-year-old brother drowned. They went to the beach on Cape Cod during spring break and found an abandoned rowboat. Laura ran back to the house to get life preservers, but Dan vanished when she returned to the shore. The little boat tossed in the surf as a storm brewed on the Cape Cod horizon. Where was Dan After several days of searching, the Coast Guard and police determined he was "presumed drowned." The repercussions were horrible: her parents divorced, her dad moved away, Laura developed a drug problem, and she barely made it through high school and college. One day, she approached her mom about moving back into their cottage on Cape Cod, now a rental property. Laura was an artist, and the Cape was the perfect place to find inspiration. Her move leads her to shocking discoveries that plunge her into a labyrinth of darkness, leading her to assume the role of detective as she unravels a series of unfathomable events.
