Elmore Leonard (1925-2013)was the author or more than fifty novels, including westerns and crime and suspense thrillers, many of which have been adapted for the screen.In 2012, he was awarded the National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. The editor of this volume, Detroit nativeGregg Sutterfirst met ElmoreLeonard in 1979 and began working for him in 1981.He is currently at work on a biography of Leonard,from his unique perspective as his full-time researcherfor more than thirty years.
