Description

This suspenseful mystery explores the influence of extraordinary events on the lives of four amateur sleuths and the lengths to which they are pushed to protect their way of life. It covers a broad spectrum of island lore. Here is a tale with roots in the sinking of a merchant vessel off the coast of the Outer Banks in the early days of WWII. Murder, years later, festers for a generation before resurfacing as extortion and more murder. But Bankers are tough resilient folks that won't be bowed by outside forces. With tenacity, and an independent nature that is their heritage, aided by a resolute good humor, they confront situations that threaten their way of life. Join them today.

Author Bio

My first trip to the Outer Banks was in 1962. I crossed the Albemarle Sound on a rickety wooden bridge. Since then, that wooden span has been replaced by first one and then two concrete bridges which currently make up the Wright Memorial Bridge. My next trip took me to Hatteras Island on the beautiful new Herbert C. Bonner Bridge, which, as I write this, is being replaced. I begin to see a pattern here. The phrase the wind always blows on Hatteras Island has been banging around in my head for years. There was a story there. I knew it. Now I think it's time to replace that vague notion with this tale that's been brewing for a long time. I hope it conveys some of the majesty of these fragile barrier islands and the hardy people who have made them home.
