Newspaper reporter Bill Razer arrives very early at the state Capitol on a below-zero winter morning. A few minutes later, he is shot dead while preparing to write a scathing column aimed at hapless Governor Phillip Newman and legislative leaders.
When no helpful clues surface, Sheriff Frank Himberger enlists former ace detective Jack Rogers, who has been on a self-imposed sabbatical due to the tragic loss of his wife eight months earlier. The reunited crime-solving duo begins figuring out this baffling case with little more than a curious shadow on a security tape. Along the way, Detective Rogers interviews a fascinating young lady, and a mysterious, twisted man plots revenge against the crime-solver.
Michael Foster was born and raised in Townsend, Montana, and currently resides in Bozeman. He earned two Bachelor's degrees and a Master's degree that served him well in the various jobs he held throughout his working career. He spent about 30 years working in Montana's Capitol building wearing several different hats, including being a member of both the Montana House of Representatives and the Senate and serving in the Cabinet and staff of two governors. Besides writing, Michael enjoys fishing, playing golf, and spending time having fun with his loved ones and friends. In his younger days, he greatly enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, and football and feels fortunate that he was able to coach those sports, including 30 years as a youth baseball coach. He and his wife Mary, a retired elementary teacher, have been married for 45 years, and they have been blessed with three grown children and three young grandchildren.
