A tragic accident in paradise or a calculated crime
After her parents death in a car crash two years ago, Eve is back in the tumbledown family house on Magnetic Island, surrounded by nosy neighbours, an over-friendly possum and a cast of eccentric locals.
All Eve has left is her sister Tilly not that shes seen much of her lately, between Tillys history of disastrous relationships and her tendency to drink too much. And when Eve is introduced to her new boyfriend Matt, a sky-diving instructor and dead ringer for a young Richard Gere, she senses trouble.
Shortly after, a skydive goes wrong and Eve is left with a mountain of unanswered questions. Matt is the prime suspect as far as she is concerned, but proving it is another matter especially after the cops rule it an accident. It doesnt help when Eves ill-advised sleepover with Shane, the local cop, goes catastrophically wrong.
In trying to solve one mystery, Eve will uncover a far deeper secret hidden in the rocky outcrops of Magnetic Island and put her own life on the line.
'The Washupispacked with action and adrenaline, yet punctuated with moments of humour and tenderness. Nicoles blend of crime with comedy is a unique and welcome addition to the genre, and readers will love the hot mess of a main character who youre rooting for the whole way through.' Laura McCluskey, author ofThe Wolf Tree
Fiendishly good, with an unforgettable protagonist and whip-crack dialogue. The Washupis a refreshing twist on the rural crime genre, with aninsane plot will give you paper cuts as you try to turn the pages fast enough to race to the end. Veronica Lando, author ofThe Whispering
Nicole Crowe grew up in Nelly Bay on Magnetic Island in a little woodenhouse built by her father. The beauty and strangeness of the island, combined with her brother's former profession as a skydive tandem master, provided the inspiration forThe Washup. Nicole still lives in Far North Queensland, but on the mainland, with her family, four chickens and a large neighbourhood python.
