After Sur returns from Vietnam to his home in Idaho, he eventually ends up in Ventura, California where he settles down and starts up his first business. Working with him are his surfer friend and two of his Vietnam acquaintances. The four of them love to surf together and become lifelong buddies.Sur next starts a beachwear company assisted by a designer who is the wife of another of his army acquaintances. This is followed by his forming of an oil drilling company which requires that he spend much of his time in Oklahoma as the company grows and prospers. As his business empire develops, Sur hires four younger men as his lieutenants to run parts of it. There is David, his financial guru who operates out of Luxembourg City, Li, his Asian prodigy who operates out of Hong Kong, Paco, his Latin hotelier who operates out of San Jose and Luke, a rodeo champion, who manages Sur's ranches from his beloved Bar 7 ranch in Idaho While Sur's life seems like the ideal American success story, Sur is plagued by recurring issues concerning war and is determined to protect his privacy from the outside world at any cost. In time, Sur and his three buddies, who call themselves the four amigos, embark on an adventure tour of the world which comes to a screeching halt following an incident deep inside the African continent.
