Camelia is a young Italian woman who lives with her mother in Leeds, a city where it is always December and winter has been underway for such a long time that nobody is old enough to have seen what came before. She's dropped out of university and translates instruction manuals for an Italian washing machine manufacturer; her mother, Livia, spends her days inside taking photographs of holes she finds in the house. Things soon change for Camelia when she meets Wen, a shop owner who teaches her Chinese. This unusual love story is funny, unpredictable and perfectly bittersweet.
Viola Di Grado was born in Catania, Italy, and currently lives in London. Her first novel,70% Acrylic 30% Wool, was the winner of the 2011 Campiello First Novel Award and a finalist for Italys most prestigious literary prize, The Strega.
