When the Second World War breaks out, Carrie Chapman defies her controlling husband to work at a local hospital. Amidst the chaos of the Bristol blitz, Carrie finds herself falling in love with a young doctor. Carrie is willing to defy convention and leave her stifling marriage, but tragic events destroy all hope of a future for the lovers, and leave Carrie to bear a burden of suspicion and guilt that will separate her from her precious daughter, Gillian. Decades later, Gillian's daughter Kathryn is astonished to discover that Carrie is still alive. Kathryn is determined to find out what Carrie had done that turned Gillian against her. The truth is more shocking than she could have imagined, and even for Carrie herself there are some secrets still to be uncovered, and ghosts laid to rest.
Amelia Carr grew up in Somerset, where she lives today. She has written numerous short stories for magazines as well as a number of novels under another name. She has a private pilot's licence, which proved extremely useful when she was writing DANCES WITH WINGS.
