Description

The Burton Barr Central Library (Phoenix Central Library) has quickly become a point in the communitys pride while serving as an exciting background to the regions library and information needs. It is a regular tour stop for visitors as well as architects and scholars from around the world. This architectural masterpiece works with the beautiful desert setting, and is designed to display the natural beauty of the West. The top of the library has a great public reading room, reminiscent of older libraries, with the entire non-fiction collection. The design is a mix of futuristic aspects combined with a respect for historical detail.

Reviews

"[Bohlin Cywinski Jackson's] body of work, which spans 45 years and ranges from small vacation houses to Apples striking retail stores, is based on the idea that architecture should murmur rather than shout, and that it isnt about style. Instead, its about responding to a buildings context in every sense of the word a process that is described in the new, aptly titled monograph, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson: The Nature of Circumstance, published by Rizzoli." ~New York Times T Magazine Blog
