Moving and thoughtful, with the propulsion of a page turning thriller. The book made me desperate to know what would happen to these women and their lives. I loved it.Kate Hamer, author ofThe Girl in the Red CoatandThe Doll Funeral

Where did she come from And how far will she go
Five years ago, Kates partner, Max, abandoned her for his pregnant lover. The affair has long since crumbled, but Kate has become fixated with Vee, her replacement. In a bid to find out what compelled Max to leave, she moves to Bridgewell, which stands in the shadow of St Catherine's Chapel, where Vee is now raising her four-year-old daughter, Iona.
Warm and trusting, Vee is juggling work, single parenthood and a controlling ex-partner, Max, with whom she is still secretly sexually involved. Glad of Kates friendship, she nevertheless wonders what has brought this glamorous but brittle woman to such a quiet corner of middle England.
When Vee meets charismatic artist Tom, she is hopeful of establishing her first meaningful attachment since Max. But Kate has her own plans...
Against a backdrop of ancient ghosts, mystical forces and long-buried tragedy, Vee unwittingly yields to Kates cruel agenda, until the past and present collide with devastating consequences.
PRAISE FOR CATHERINE WHEEL:
Liz Evans delivers a nuanced take on the domestic thriller Books+Publishing
a tense, noirish read right to the very end (I had to stay up late to finish it). The Hobart
deliberate and carefully crafted. The Conversation
Catherine Wheel doesn't shy away from the truth about coercive control - the all-consuming mundanity of it, the complex intertwining of reason and emotion, and the sometimes unhappy truths of desire. Liz Evans has written a taut, multi-layered psychological thriller that explores the aftermath of a life-changing relationship. Her characters are acutely drawn and Kate's cool, detached voice, tinged with vulnerability, will haunt you long after the final page. -- Melanie Joosten
Stifling psychological suspense develops into a broader conversation about toxic masculinity, societal expectations of women and the importance of true friendship. Recommend this to readers of intelligent feminist noir, such as Jacqueline Bublitz and Catherine Chidgey. * Books + Publishing *
