What lies behind the walls of The Sanctuary, a secretive and conservative religious community Its been a tough year for Charli Trenthenan: her mother died in a tragic car accident and shes been shunned by locals in Stone Lake who believe she is to blame for a recent fire. She keeps to herself, mostly, completing bookbinding projects and dreaming of the day she can leave this town. When taking a walk in the nearby forest, Charli discovers a dead baby under the ice, near the grounds of The Sanctuary, a powerful international religious movement that champions the benefits of slow living and runs a drug rehabilitation program. Charli informs the police of her discovery, but instead of helping to solve the crime she soon finds herself a suspect in the babys murder. She must fight to prove her innocence in a town that no longer trusts her, and as she digs deeper into the goings on at The Sanctuary, she uncovers some startling secrets, one which hits close to home
Erina has worked with words, ideas and stories all her life. She started out as a journalist, working in radio and television and was awarded the prestigious Walkley Award for her work as an ABC foreign correspondent. She has a Masters Degree in Professional Writing (University of Technology Sydney) and a PhD in Creative Writing (La Trobe University) on girl warriors and ball gowns. Shes taught politics at the University of Melbourne and creative writing at LaTrobe University and Writers Victoria. Her family claims she can glamorise a handful of facts beyond recognition in the service of an entertaining story, sometimes at the expense of truth but always in favour of wonder.
