When Max falls down the stairs at a New Year's Eve party she is left questioning who cares for and comforts her. Seeking these things, she starts dating Vincent - a man who seems safe and kind. But, being only human, Vincent has a past of his own to unravel. New Year's. Max is jaded. Her once-exciting world of book launches, elaborate dinners and interesting acquaintances is beginning to feel less than the sum of its parts, and she can't shake the feeling that a lifetime of dysphoria and dysfunctional relationships is hanging over her. After a sobering incident at a house party, she decides to flirt with a more normative lifestyle. Enter Vincent- a kind, handsome lawyer. Dependable, hard-working, bakes cakes as a hobby. Max isn't sure if she fits into his aggressively trad friendship group or if his conservative Chinese parents will ever get over the fact that she's trans, but dating Vincent brings Max a new-found sense of comfort and self-worth. Little does Max know, Vincent has a history of his own. Ten years prior, he meets a British girl, Alex, while travelling in Thailand with his best friend, Fred. He wants to fit in. He wants to get with a hot girl. Amidst the sweltering heat and a misguided half-moon party, tensions brew. Will what happened in his past end up sabotaging Vincent in the present Are we all just doomed to forever suffer the consequences of our mistakes, or is it possible to learn from and transcend our personal histories, and perhaps even to forgive
