Max Lamm, a young Australian tennis player, arrives in London to escape the internet sex scandal that has destroyed his burgeoning career. Then one night, in Camden Town, he accidentally kills a fifteen-year-old Pakistani boy who tries to mug him and finds himself on the run once again. London's East End erupts into street protests about the 'racially motivated murder' and Max finds refuge with Kelly, the spoiled daughter of a powerful US senator. Kelly is privileged and beautiful and also on the run, from Washington and her conservative father's attempts to reform her party-girl lifestyle. Max and Kelly bunker down in her Hyde Park penthouse as London erupts into the worst race riot in a generation. But the arrival of Kelly's famous father and the revelation of his own dark secret gives Max the chance to plot his salvation, while Kelly must choose whether to save the father who nearly destroyed her, or to love the fugitive whose fatal mistake has shocked a nation. I am Max Lamm is a darkly humorous exploration of family loyalty, disgrace and collective hysteria in the age of terror.
