For readers of SUCH A FUN AGE, QUEENIE and PROMISING YOUNG WOMEN, this is a refreshingly sharp and honest debut novel about how one shocking event can upend a person's world, and asks, what would you have done in the same situation Jade isn't even my real name. Jade began as my Starbucks name, because all children of immigrants have a Starbucks name. Jade has done all the right things. She's curated herself to fit right in at her law firm, but tells herself she has no choice. She's with a man who loves her, but she isn't always herself around him. She's made her Omma and Baba proud, but resents that they can't properly understand her. Jade is perfectly in control of her life. Until one terrible night unravels Jade's carefully constructed world, leaving her wondering who she truly is.
JADED is a thoughtful, hard-hitting exploration of race, identity, and the rippling effects of sexual assault. Ela Lee writes with an urgency and clarity that will have you hooked until the last page. * Cecile Pin, author of Wandering Souls *
Wonderfully multi-faceted and emotionally compelling * Jessica George, author of MAAME *
Jaded is a sharp, bold and compulsively readable story of power, money, sex-and survival. Urgent and necessary, this is a book that will take up space in your heart and mind long after the last page * Cecilia Rabess, author of EVERYTHINGS FINE *
Ela Lee has crafted a novel that's compulsive, rousing and raw. JADED is a dizzying debut about power, race, consent, entitlement, and so much more * Chlo Ashby, author of WET PAINT *
Clever, insightful, poignant * A.J. West *
