Nick Rostov's father is stricken by a Shadowkeeper's spell and lingers near death. Determined to save his father, he convinces his cousin to divulge the secret of the Chalice of Immortality which, from Shakespeare to Sir Arthuer Conan Doyle, has traded hands many times throughout history.
. It's created almost like a journal filled with stories and scenes about the chalice and the route it takes through history. There is a lot of history in the story that keeps it believable. -- Song Berries
Magical artifacts and historical figures play a wonderful part in these books and Kirov does a superb job weaving fact and fantasy throughout the stories with flashbacks that reveal that people like Shakespeare and Poe just might have had their creativity bolstered by magic... Kirov keeps her story filled with interesting historical figures and a fast paced plot making this a great book for younger readers who are interesting in Harry Potter-type fantasy but not ready for the darker aspects that often come with books of this genre. -- Books4YourKids
