With explosive narrative skill, Tom Paine pulls you into the worlds of a cross-dressing army general, a confused down-and-out being offered an incredible opportunity, a despairing man whose mother hates him for no apparent reason, a teenage anarchist, a West Indian mayor or a Romanian TV journalist. Paine's stories feature exotic locales, and take you on adventures you never imagined. Like Ernest Hemmingway, Robert Stone, Richard Ford and Russell Banks, Tom Paine grips the reader with passion and vision.
Paine has a sadistic delight in stripping away the American myth of enlightened hegemony, but he also deftly parodies the heroics of Hemingway, the straight-up narratives of Mailer and Vonnegut's absurdities - Guardian
A former marine, newspaper editor and orderly in a mental hospital, Tom Paine is a graduate of Princeton and the Columbia MFA program. He is the winner of an O.
