All Jude wants to do is get high. All Teddy wants to do is get out. One of them won't live to see 1988. In the wake of this death, three teenagers will try to find a way of honouring their lost friend. Is clean living the answer Is parenthood Or the simplicity of carrying out a last wish'Henderson's writing is warm, engaged, and precise ... Ten Thousand Saints is the offspring of Lester Bangs and Anne Tyler, and who wouldn't want to read that baby' Nick Hornby. 'Henderson does not hold back once: she writes the hell out of every moment, every scene, every perspective, every fleeting impression, every impulse and desire ... she is never ironic or underwhelmed; her preferred mode is fierce, devoted and elegiac' Stacy D'Erasmo, New York Times. 'The best thing I've read in a long time' Ann Patchett (winner of the Orange Prize). 'Irresistibly rich and engrossing ... the hard-edged settings highlight the touching vulnerability of young characters' O, The Oprah Magazine. 'A rare debut that, with a flinty kind of nostalgia, invokes both the gods and demons of a generation' Vogue. 'an entertaining and thought-provoking journey into the 'Straight Edge' music scene in 1980's New York City ... a sad yet compelling read; one that I highly recommend' New Books Magazine. 'Henderson captures the dark, gritty quality of Eighties New York, a time of sex, drugs, Punk, and Aids. She has a vital, driving style, with an eye for the grimy detail, and gets right into the heads of her characters' Daily Mail. 'this high-octane ensemble novel evocatively charts the way teenagers' lives interconnect' Guardian. Henderson has not only crafted a moving and satisfying novel, but also redressed a balance, and perhaps, one hopes, paved the way for the great punk novel of the future' TLS. 'A wild and poignant story about love, friendship, music and salvation, moving and hilarious by turns' UNCUT.
