Silvia is a colour-blind artist of mixed Norwegian and Mexican heritage. She has been living a secret life. Jack is a human rights lawyer, who has suddenly realised that life is not at all what it seems. An accidental meeting between the two results in a shocking jolt from the past that takes them from the seedy streets of a Mexican border town to the promise of new life and adventure in Alaska. Equal parts tragedy, adventure and love story, this illustrated novel asks questions about love, the universe and the human mind.
"The description of place, texture, and sense is exquisitely rendered... its grace and atmosphere made it a wholly involving, immersive experience" - Helen Callaghan, author of Dear Amy
Born in London to Polish parents, Maia has lived in the UK, Chile and Australia, and spent her childhood summers in the forests of Poland. She is a self-taught artist, and author-illustrator of children's picture books as well as a novelist.
Her work is an exploration of reality and how the human mind perceives it, inspired by nature and this mysterious thing called life, it is a reflection on the simple but extraordinary and mysterious fact of existence.
