Description

'A Sandie Docker book is like a cup of tea and a biscuit. It's warm on the inside, snuggly, sweet and lots of fun. It touches the heart, and stimulates the brain.' Happy Valley Books Read Sisters Eleanor and Maggie have been running the Lyrebird Lake Ladies' Choir for many years. The choir meets every week in the sisters' stately federation house on the lake's edge and means so much to the women who have found their 'home' there over the years. But the house itself is in desperate need of repair and the only way to save it, and the choir, is for them to win the All Voices Championship and the prize money that comes with it. When single mum Hannah pitches a tent on the camping ground next door, homeless after being widowed, her angelic voice seems just what the choir needs to give them a winning edge. But when Eleanor hears Hannah singing a long-forgotten lullaby, one Maggie composed sixty years before, Eleanor is thrust back into a past she buried for good reason. In 1959, twenty-year-old Eleanor escorted her young sister Maggie to Australia, after they are banished from their Irish village when Maggie becomes pregnant, unwed. Starting a new life thousands of miles from home is never going be easy, but when Maggie is forced into giving up her child, both sisters know they may never stop grieving. Hannah's arrival in Lyrebird Lake could hold the key to so much for each of them, especially after Hannah meets local lawyer Benjamin, but will the choir bring them together over past losses or throw up too many dark secrets of the past

Author Bio

Sandie Docker grew up in Coffs Harbour, and first fell in love with reading when her father introduced her to fantasy books as a teenager. Her love of fiction began when she first read Jane Austen for the HSC, but it wasn't until she was taking a translation course at university that her Mandarin lecturer suggested she might have a knack for writing - a seed of an idea that sat quietly in the back of her mind while she lived overseas and travelled the world. Sandie first decided to put pen to paper (yes, she writes everything the old-fashioned way before hitting a keyboard) when living in London. Now back in Sydney with her husband and daughter, she writes every day.
