Description

'Is this honest Are we all being honest here'

You couldn't really call the man soon to be christened TonyInterruptor a heckler, but he seems to feel an unquenchable urge to disrupt and interrupt live cultural events. Who is he What does he want Why does he indulge in behaviour that violates the social contract

After just such a public interruption goes viral, a small group of characters determine to find out the answers to these question, and end up learning more than they might possibly like about music, culture, relationships, Art, integrity, each other and their own endlessly disrupted and disruptable selves.

As profound as it is exuberant, TonyInterruptor is a comic masterpiece that traces the aftermath of a single event as it reverberates through the online world and its characters' lives, upending everything in its wake and posing fundamental questions about authenticity, the internet, love and, yes, truth.

Reviews

A hilarious, important novel. A correct and a real one. There is something in the writing that is wild in a virtuosic way and, needless to say, hugely intelligent -- Isabel Waidner, author of Sterling Karat Gold
There is a direct river running from Chaucer, through Laurence Sterne and William Blake, picking up jetsam from Angela Carter and Martin Amis and erupting wonderfully in Nicola Barker, one of Britain's Greatest novelists. TonyInterrupter is a joyous and exhilarating ride which pushes you through the rabbit warren of art, literature and the human soul -- Camilla Grudova
A blizzard of a novel - an account of disobedience and transformation; connection and departure. Barker's characters collide with one another gleefully, and the use of language is sublime. I found myself bouncing from one page to the next -- Fiona Mozley
This book is extremely funny. It is deliriously pacy. It radiates with righteousness and purity of heart. It is truly unusual and truly new and it proves, once again, that Nicola Barker is a tribune of the human imagination -- Aidan Cottrell-Boyce
Jazz and punk all at once, Tonyinterruptor is a wild novel of ideas, where the ideas are live and perilous, bristling out of Barker's singular characters and her own wonderfully idiosyncratic style. No one writes like Barker. She is a glorious self-interruptor whose improvisations and seeming digressions are always taking us closer to something transcendent. Tonyinterruptor is a wise, funny, spiritual and deeply human novel -- Ben Masters
An anarchic and lovingly perverse writer -- Ali Smith
I think Nicola Barker is incapable of a dull page. Her work...is unified by its spirit of adventure, and by the drive of ambition behind each new, splendidly batty project -- Kevin Barry
Nicola Barker's wildness and capacity for the absurd often delight me -- Sarah Moss
Barker's sense of plot and comic timing is faultless -- Rachel Cusk
Barker is some kind of genius * Observer *
That's the thing with Nicola Barker: once you're on board for the ride, there's no getting off * Guardian *
No one writes like Barker... Tonyinterruptor is a wise, funny, spiritual and deeply human novel -- Ben Masters
