He is part of the households all-black staff, along with Miss Mamie, the talented cook, and new maid Jennie Williams. But the Barclays fortunes have fallen, and their money is almost gone. When a business associate proposes selling Miss Mamies delicious rib sauce under the brand name The Rib King using a caricature of a wildly grinning Mr. Sitwell on the label Mr. Barclay, desperate for cash, agrees. Yet neither Miss Mamie nor Mr. Sitwell will see a dime. Humiliated, Mr. Sitwell grows increasingly distraught, and his anger builds to a rage that explodes in shocking tragedy.
