Description

1912 in The Yorkshire Dales, Alice Bentham and her brother Will have lost their mother to cancer. Money is scarce and pride doesn't pay the doctor or put food on the table. Alice gets work at Whernside Manor looking after Lord Frankland's fragile sister Miss Nancy. Meanwhile Will and his best-friend Jack begin working for the Lord of the Manor at the marble mill. But their purpose there is not an entirely honest one. For a while everything runs smoothly, but corruption, attempted murder and mis-placed love are just waiting in the wings. Nothing is as it seems and before they know it, Alice and Will's lives are entwined with that of the Frankland's and nothing will ever be the same again.

Author Bio

Diane Allen was born in Leeds, but returned to her family's farm deep in the Yorkshire Dales. After working as a glass engraver, raising a family, and looking after an ill father, she found her true niche in life, joining a large print publishing firm in 1990. Rising through the firm, she is now the general manager and has recently been made Honorary Vice President of the Romantic Novelist's Society. Diane and her husband Ronnie live in Long Preston, in the Yorkshire Dales, and have two children and four beautiful grandchildren.
