Originally penned in the 1980s, the author refused to finish this novel, possibly because the story was too closely tied to his own experiences, and he did not know how his story would end. Several years after his death in 2008, his widow collected all the chapters she could find and compiled this book. Since so much of the author's experience was also her own, who better than she to write the remaining chapters

Author Bio

Malcolm Stauffer, 1945-2008, wrote his one and only novel based largely upon his own experiences growing up in Pekin, Illinois, and living through years of chronic illness and dialysis. He penned this novel in the late 1980s which displays his obvious fondness for the simpler times of the 1960s. He enjoyed studying the history of his hometown and was determined to understand all he could about the medical treatments he received, including his two kidney transplants. He and his wife, Marcia, had three children and seven grandchildren.Marcia Stauffer-Lindahl is Malcolm's widow who lovingly compiled his chapter printouts and wrote the ending to the story that Malcolm refused to write himself. Also born and raised in Pekin, Illinois, her experience walking with Malcolm through his illness and treatments gave her great insight into how to best finish the story of Paul, the main character. She penned the final chapters originally as a Christmas gift to her children.
