Taking place prior to the events of the video game Borderlands 2, this all-new novel sees Mordecai and Daphne get themselves in a tough spot near the highly dangerous town of Gunsight, one of the most remote outposts on the planet, out in the boonies of the boonies of the Borderlands. Daphne is taken prisoner by a local warlord, Jasper, who controls the area around Gunsightexcept for another settlement, the former mining town Tumessa. Theres some kind of big secret operation going on thereanother warlord, a particularly mutated Psycho named Reamus, is somehow making money. And hes been raiding Gunsight, kidnapping Jaspers people. Jasper may be scum, but he needs those people for raids on other towns. When Mordecai tries to negotiate for Daphnes release, Jasper tells him that the only way hell ever see her alive again is for him to kill his way into Tumessa, find out whats going on there, and report backonly then will Mordecai get a paycheck and the girl. Mordecai doesnt want the job, but he is pretty devoted to Daphneand he just might be able to turn this entire mess to his advantage
