In 1997, Stanley Kubrick, the worlds most meticulous director, is working on his final film, Eyes Wide Shut, starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. However, the production is plagued by Kubrick's obsessive perfectionism, with demands like making Cruise walk through a doorway 95 times. The cast and crew, especially Kubrick's assistant director Glenn, are growing increasingly frustrated. Meanwhile, Kubrick is focused on filming a controversial orgy scene at Elveden Hall, featuring a dozen strippers, including Nina. Enter Kim, a cheeky reporter who sneaks onto the set as an extra to gather tabloid fodder. But Kim becomes more than just a muckraker he befriends Cruise, Kidman and even Kubrick, while secretly playing matchmaker between Glenn and Nina.
Blending authentic behind-the-scenes details with romcom humor, the story offers a unique glimpse into the chaotic world of filmmaking and tabloid journalism. Drawing on the authors experience as a tabloid reporter and extra, the novel captures the bizarre and funny moments that unfold on set. With Kims antics and the drama surrounding Kubricks perfectionism, the tale delivers both laughs and a fascinating look at the making of a legendary film.
