Arriving at the town of Fort Smith with a prisoner, Lucky Luke is surprised to find a place in turmoil and a thoroughly annoyed sheriff. Belle Starr, a rich ranch owner, keeps posting bail for every bandit arrested in town, with the complicity of a corrupt judge, before recruiting them in her own gang and carrying out various attacks and robberies. Unfortunately, she is also such a pillar of the community that no one believes she could possibly be guilty...
Born and raised in Belgium, Morris moved to the United States in 1946 for six years. There, he worked for MAD magazine and met Ren Goscinny, with whom he collaborated from 1955 until Goscinny's death in 1977. Xavier Fauche, a well-known figure in French radio, wrote for the French version of Jim Henson's show Fraggle Rock and co-created the cartoon Les Tifous. His enduring cooperation with Jean Lturgie produced eight Lucky Luke titles, followed by the spin-off series Rantanplan (Rin Tin Can) and Kid Lucky.
