A terrible heatwave. A very tense baby shower. It will all end in tears...
Nicki, Lauren, Charlotte and Steffi have been friends since university. Now in their thirties, life is pulling them in different directions - but when Charlotte organises the baby shower of hell for pregnant Nicki, the girls are reunited. Under a sweltering hot summer day, tensions rise - and by the end of the evening, nothing will ever be the same. Someone started a fire at the house - and everyone's a suspect... Is it Steffi, happily child-free but feeling judged by her friends Is it Charlotte, desperate to conceive and jealous of those who have Is it Lauren, who is finding motherhood far, far worse than she imagined Or is it Nicki herself, who never wanted a baby shower anyway In the aftermath, the police put together the facts - but the truth will shock everyone. Even you.BIG LITTLE LIES meets REALLY GOOD, ACTUALLY in the incredible new novel from Holly Bourne - it's the book you'll want to read three times, then give to every woman in your life.PRAISE FOR SO THRILLED FOR YOU
I raced through SO THRILLED FOR YOU. I think it's brilliant: so funny, so sad, so scary. (And oh, dear God, it brought back so many memories!) -- Jacqueline Wilson
I enjoyed it so, SO MUCH. I was utterly GRIPPED. So many unexpected but wholly believable twists and turns. I think it will resonate for all women. Yet it's so much fun -- Marian Keyes
I loved it. Part whodunnit, part dark take-down of motherhood, and the vast love and limits it imposes on women. It will be huge -- Gillian McAllister
This dark and intoxicating portrayal of female friendship cleverly captures how the choices we make as women threaten to divide us. Compelling, thought provoking and unputdownable - I absolutely loved it -- Sarah Turner (@TheUnmumsyMum)
Bourne's propulsive plot pulls her readers through an emotionally charged day whilst exploring the tenderest, most shameful and funny aspects of the divisive experiences of motherhood, almost motherhood and being child-free by choice, culminating in an explosive, but ultimately universally empowering, denouement -- Kate Sawyer
Reading So Thrilled For You I found myself pulled into an all too familiar landscape where the pressures on women - mothers and non-mothers like - were so visceral and acute I had to close the book to gasp at times. A hearty congratulations and a high five to Holly! -- Emily Edwards
PRAISE FOR HOLLY BOURNE . . .
GIRL FRIENDS is a blistering, confronting, and utterly compelling read. It's laugh-out-loud funny and disquieting in equal measures. This is Holly Bourne at her very best -- Louise ONeill
I will never, ever forget [GIRL FRIENDS]. It's more than a page turner - it's the sort of story you inhale . . . This book will leave its readers kinder and wiser, and it will inspire us all to forgive ourselves for our complicated pasts -- Daisy Buchanan
A total tour de force . . . all at once shocking, validating, shrewd and sharp-witted . . . Just magnificent. Buy it for every friend you have, and then hold a book club to discuss immediately -- Laura Jane Williams
The most perceptive book I have ever read -- Dolly Alderton
Holly started her writing career as a news journalist, where she was nominated for Best Print Journalist of the Year. She then spent six years working as an editor, a relationship advisor, and general 'agony aunt' for a youth charity - helping young people with their relationships and mental health. Inspired by what she saw, she started writing teen fiction, including the best-selling, award-winning 'Spinster Club' series which helps educate teenagers about feminism. When she turned thirty, Holly wrote her first adult novel, examining the intensified pressures on women once they hit that landmark. Since then she has written several novels for Hodder and Stoughton, all focusing particularly on women and the issues they face in modern society.
Alongside her writing, Holly has a keen interest in women's rights and is an advocate for reducing the stigma of mental health problems. She's helped create online apps that teach young people about sexual consent, works with Women's Aid to spread awareness of abusive relationships, and runs Rethink's mental health book club.
