Follow the magical realism of relationships between ravens and humans in this historical romance set in the late summer of 1969. Brian developed an endearing friendship with an especially gifted raven named Poe after meeting in Kansas. Poe learned to speak to humans by attending outdoor movies with subtitles and reading books at city dumps. Brian urges Poe and his 'unkindness' (flock of ravens) to migrate from New Mexico to northern Minnesota, where he believes an exciting life awaits them. After the 30-day journey, navigating by the moon and the Missouri and Mississippi rivers, they arrive in their new home. When a series of deadly tornadoes sweeps through the region a month later, their devotion to one another is put to the test in a fight for survival.
Brian Whelihan lives in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. He enjoys writing short stories and novels after a long career in science. His first book "OPUS 19" is a collection of short stories written during the Covid 19 pandemic. "Rowl, Role, Roll Your Weigh," his second book, is a full novel of historical and hysterical fictional adventures of a young man with a problem. "Endearing Misfortune", his third book, is a sequel to "Rowl" and continues the historical fictional relationship between Brian and his raven friends. Brian's career has been filled with meaningful learning experiences like working in a cheese factory, delivering newspapers and people, changing truck tires, painting houses, sweeping floors, and making doors.
