Sister Gilda and Lord Justin are charged to resolve a conflict: Count Cedric wants to annul his marriage to Lady Mariel so he can marry Lady Emma; Mariel believes Cedric's half-brother Phillip, not Cedric, is the man she married at her wedding; and Philip and Emma are in love. Can Gilda and Justin complete their mission before their burgeoning passion for each other overwhelms them.
"This endearing love story is ideal for historical romance fans looking for a break from Regency-era lords and ladies." --Publisher's Weekly "It is refreshing to see a tale achieve such titillating, erotic heights without resorting to a more unabashed, not to say lurid, style, a sign of the author's novelistic subtlety . . . An engaging love story, historically captivating and romantically gripping." --Kirkus Reviews "Curtis delivers a wonderfully fresh romantic mystery that combines the arcane complications of medieval marriage customs, court intrigue, and a smart, witty heroine in a fast-paced tale that will delight readers with twists and surprises right up to the very last page. Gilda and Justin are well-matched both as lovers and as sleuths. They deserve an entire series."
--Jayne Ann Krentz (a.k.a. Amanda Quick), author of Untouchables and The Lady Vanishes, with over 35 million books in print

--Publishers Weekly
"Set against the backdrop of the Frankish Empire, Curtis, with her captivating storytelling, brings to life a world filled with heroic battles, distinctive characters and high-stakes tension that will keep readers turning the pages."
--RT Book Reviews
"Set against the historical backdrop of France in 825, Curtis' novel is a classic tale of high drama and romance . . . an easy-reading traditional love story with a romantic, nostalgic setting."
--Booklist
"In this romance, a spirited young woman meets her match in a stalwart soldier during the turbulent times after the death of Charlemagne... An old-fashioned love story in an unusual historical milieu."
