Cassie has started a new job at an art museum in Baltimore following the death of her parents and the end of an abusive relationship. Despite her loneliness, she is beyond excited when her boss asks her to restore a long lost piece by Raphael. What she doesn't know is that the subject of the painting has been trapped inside for over five hundred years, and she accidentally releases him. William Norwood now finds himself in a foreign world looking for answers, and desperately wants to return to his sister, Adelaide. He turns to this mysterious girl who managed to free him for help. Still, he carries the guilt of his past actions and feels a connection to Cassie that he can't explain. Meanwhile, Adelaide takes matters into her own hands to protect herself in her brother's absence. With twists and turns along the way, "Portrait of a Young Man" spans both the present and early sixteenth century, following the journeys of three young adults as they navigate the humanity that binds us across time.
Cary Hundley is an autistic and nonbinary first-time author. Through their writing, they strive to give youth the representation they wish they had seen in literature. They are a current social work student, equine studies professor, and math tutor. They also teach horseback riding at a collegiate level and spend most of their free time with their own three horses. They treasure the connections people can build with animals and utilize that in their writing. They live in Baltimore with their husband, two dogs, and cat.
