The one and only Akwaeke Emezi is back with a breathtaking, sexy and out-of-this world page-turner that will blow away their fans. Son of the Morning weaves together Southern folklore and magic with Akwaeke Emezi's own remarkable brand of bold, Black-centered fantasy and romance.
Galilee, Gali for short, has been raised by a formidable clan of women, the Kincaids, in the American South. Growing up, there was always something different about Gali, but it's a secret that her family of women has never shared with her. Gali assumes that it will always be like this, living with an ache and emptiness inside her, never finding something full enough to fill that hollow...Until, that is, she meets Lucifer Helel. He's supposedly the head of security for her wealthy friend Oriaku's family, but he is far too beautiful to be the mere mortal that he appears. From the moment they lay eyes on each other, both of them know: the other one is not human. Their lives are going to change forever - and for eternity, threatening everyone around them: Gali's family, her friends, and perhaps the whole world, after their heated first encounter threatens the very foundations of Heaven and Hell.AKWAEKE, lauded as 'one of our greatest living writers' (Shondaland) and 'a once-in-a-generation voice' (Vulture), is an artist based in liminal spaces. Born and raised in Nigeria, their work spans literature, music, film, and visual art. After performing at Afropunk Brooklyn in 2023 for their first live show, AKWAEKE's debut EP Stop Dying, You Were Very Expensive! drops on March 8, 2024. Their eighth book Little Rot will be published on June 18, 2024 from Riverhead Books.
AKWAEKE moved to Brooklyn in the early 2010s as a poet and filmmaker, with their short film Ududeagu winning Best Short Experimental at the 2014 BlackStar Film Festival. Their romance novel You Made A Fool Of Death With Your Beauty was a Sunday Times bestseller, a 2023 NAACP Image Award nominee and the screen adaptation sold in a seven-figure deal to Amazon Studios, with AKWAEKE executive producing alongside Michael B. Jordan's Outlier Society.
