He succeeds in placing before the reader a vision of the world in cosmic time' When an adaptation of this famous story of a Martian invasion was broadcast forty years after it was written, it was believed to be true and produced a panic-stricken stampede out of New York. The combination of broad sweep with meticulous detail that H. G. Wells achieves in this great pioneering work of science fiction remains unmatched.
H. G. Wells (1866-1946) is best remembered for his science fiction novels, which are considered classics of the genre, including The Time Machine (1895), The Island of Doctor Moreau (1896), The Invisible Man (1897), and The War of the Worlds (1898). He was born in Bromley, Kent, and worked as a teacher, before studying biology under Thomas Huxley in London.
