'The Story of a Dead Man' sees the Saint running an office overlooking the Strand and composing tongue-in-cheek letters of complaint to The Times, until Inspector Teal comes to investigate the mysterious Mr Vanney. In 'The Impossible Crime', a bored Saint helps Chief Inspector Teal with what appears to be unsolvable mystery; a man in a locked room who has been shot to death. And finally in 'The National Debt' the Saint is in South Wales when he stumbles across strange happenings at a remote inn.
Leslie Charteris was born in Singapore and moved to England in 1919. He left Cambridge University early when his first novel was accepted for publication. He wrote novels about the Saint throughout his life, becoming one of the 20th century's most prolific and popular authors.
