Mariette Lindstein was raised on the west coast of Sweden. Drawn into the Church of Scientology at the age of 19, she spend 25 years at the cult's headquarters in Los Angeles, working directly for David Miscavige at the heart of the organisation. She escaped in 2004 with her husband in dramatic circumstances. She became a teacher and was encouraged to write about the abuse she experienced in Scientology by Pulitzer Prize-winner Lawrence Wright. The idea of writing a suspense novel was born, and The Cult of Fog Island is the result.
