Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was a Danish playwright, poet and novelist but is best remembered as the author of some of more than 150 fairy tales, including such well known classics as The Little Mermaid and The Snow Queen.
Jacob Grimm (17851863) and Wilhelm Grimm (17861859) were scholars best known for their lifelong dedication to collecting and publishing ancient German folk tales. Their ground-breaking book, Kinder-und Hausmrchen (Childrens and Household Tales) introduced the world to much loved characters including Cinderella and Rapunzel.
