Jacob Ludwig Karl Grimm (1785-1863) and Wilhelm Carl Grimm (1786-1859) were German folklorists, academics, linguists, and cultural researchers best known for collecting and publishing German and European folk tales during the nineteenth century. The Brothers Grimm revolutionized the methodology for collecting and recording oral folk tales, folk music, and legends that became the foundation of folklore studies today. Their classic collection Kinder- und Hausmarchen (now known worldwide as Grimms' Fairy Tales) was published first in 1812 and popularized many beloved modern-day children's stories.
