Description

In Plans We Made Simon Moreton remembers teenage years spent in the suburbs of South East England in the late 1990s. Moreton's quiet, minimal pencil drawings beautifully evoke a nostalgic longing for a time long gone. Moreton is a master of the minimal cartooning wave originated by John Porcellino.

Simon Moreton is an artist and zine-maker based in Bristol, England. He has been self-publishing his acclaimed Smoo Comics since 2008. He has been published by Avery Hill (UK), Retrofit (US), and Sotokaramita (Japan), and in numerous anthologies including ku! comics and DECADENCE. His art has been exhibited internationally.

Reviews

"Moreton conveys the unreliable, untrustworthy nature of our memories. The minimal style leaves out the details, reminding us of the uncertainty of adolescence when we are finding our way in the world and wondering what life holds and will hold. You can read this excellent book quickly, but you won't be done with it for a while."--The Quietus "The abstract spaces [Moreton] creates are without boundaries so that the world feels large and full of possibilities. But his drawings are suggestive enough though to make the experiences in those spaces feel authentic and contained. Even though the world feels wide open, there's only so much freedom that can be experienced and Moreton's drawings capture that conflicting expanse of possibilities and the limits of experience."--Panel Patter
