Among all the things that make Gomer such a lovable rascal, there are two that are instantly recognisable: his car, and his goofophone. His old lemon, favourite target of the constabulary and every pedestrian's nightmare, is responsible for half the pollution in town as well as many of the more ... exotic accidents. The rest of the latter are mostly the result of the terrible 'musical' instrument put together by Gomer stiff competition for the Trumpets of Jericho!
A Belgian cartoonist from the Golden Age of comics, Andr Franquin was as important and influential throughout his career as Herg, moulding and training dozens of artists through his long years at Spirou magazine. In his 20 years at the helm of Spirou and Fantasio, creator of their fantastical friend the Marsupilami, he was also the father of one of the most beloved anti-heroes of European comics, Gaston Lagaffe, as well as the delightfully dark and sarcastic Ides Noires. As a sign of his popularity, he received the very first Grand Prix de la ville d'Angoulme in 1974.
