These are mysteries with historical and cultural content. Mortensen is a fun and good-natured hero who trots the globe and travels throughout history. Educational back matter offers the readers more information on the topics covered.
Mortensen must transport the Red Ruby from New York City in 1937 to Versailles, France, in 1993. That would be a simple job for a time traveler, but he's not the only one with plans for the gem. A gun moll, a fortune teller, a gangster, an aristocrat, and two henchmen are hot on his trail. Mortensen's mad chase will lead him from Denmark to Burma, and even to the deck of the Titanic!
Lars Jakobsen began his art career in Denmark, designing patterns and graphics for the fashion industry. In 1990 he created a weekly comic strip that still runs over two decades later. Ganske Vist (or Coop Ville, as it's known in English) is about day-to-day life in a chicken coop. Lars worked as an animator on two Ganske Vist cartoons. He has also made several documentaries about historic films and events. He has worked as a coordinator for the Consulate General of Denmark, where he helped introduce Danish artists to the American market. Mortensen's Escapades was originally published in Denmark in 1993. Its high paced and punchy stories made it an instant success.
