Description

Series is a little younger than some of the other titles on the list., Two volumes are available with two more planned for 2013-14., Hilarious. Even the fart jokes.

Six-year-old Leopold doesn't want to go to school one morning. Luckily, it's also the morning he discovers he can turn invisible. His only problem is that he hasn't figured out how to turn his clothes invisible too. Having visible underwear gets in the way of the pranks he'd like to play. Instead of looting banks, working for the CIA, or joining a major crime syndicate (all of which occur to his older sister, Celine, who also hopes he might get swept off by the government for secret experiments and cloning), Leopold uses his new talent to get extra dessert, exact playground justice, perplex his parents. The occasional fart jokes are unexpectedly funny when the sound effects are in French. Leopold and Celine squabble, make mistakes, get jealous of each other, and work it all out ... more or less. Leopold discovers along the way that it helps to have his older sister as an ally-but the rivalry is sure to go on. The last page is a "can you spot the difference" puzzle of Celine's room before and after invisible Leopold has whirled through it.

Reviews

"Leopold and his older sister, Celine, engage in the usual sibling rivalry, but one day Leopold takes it to a new level when he discovers he can turn invisible. He does have to work on such minor problems as his clothes not disappearing (he's not ready to completely take them off). All he wants to do with his power is to play tricks on Celine, but he's willing to help her if she'll pay him in caramels. The episodic stories, translated from the original French, employ universal humor relating to family and school. The colorful, cartoony art adds to the laughs, while the simple panels and word balloons help young, novice readers negotiate the comic-book pages. The book includes some potty humor, and the invisible Leopold helps Celine hit a couple of mean girls in the school yard. Young readers who like goofiness and superpowers in equal parts will enjoy this first entry in the Where's Leopold series." --Booklist

"Teachers and parents may raise an eyebrow at a story that uses words like 'doo doo, ' 'dummy, ' 'mafia, ' and includes pictures a young school-aged boy in his underwear who kicks, hits, and toots, but young readers are going to love the silliness in this graphic novel, the first in the Where's Leopold series. When Leopold discovers he can make himself invisible, hilarity ensues with Leopold playing tricks on his sister, parents, and schoolmates. Included at the end of the story is a picture puzzle for readers to solve. This storyline will be easily understood and enjoyed by younger students who are fans of the Captain Underpants books." --Library Media Connection

"Pesky little brothers can be annoying--but what if yours was invisible
Orange-haired, caramel-chomping Celine is saddled with an exceedingly annoying little brother, Leopold. Unlike most irritating siblings, Leopold has a superpower: He is able to turn invisible. The carrot-topped team do what any kids with access to such a power would do: pull silly pranks on each other and their friends. In one vignette, Leopold uses his talent to blame horribly smelly flatulence on those around him (including Celine and his dad); what kid wouldn't crack up at the chance to pull off the ultimate 'silent but deadly' prank In another, he employs his invisibility to sneak an entire dessert off the table, leaving his sister to take the blame (though he does pay his own price with an uncomfortably full belly). Oversized panels and exceptionally exaggerated expressions only beef up the already bountiful bons mots. The short, highly episodic exploits are delivered with minimal text and at lightning speed; expect most to devour this in a single short sitting.
Just try to read it and not snicker." --Kirkus Reviews
