Description

In his follow up from the hit Biomega series, Tsutomu Nihei tackles the world of hard science-fiction by creating a modern space comedy inspired by the genre hits from his youth. Nagate Tanikaze was a homeless teen living in the depths of a space colony with a passion for simulation games and stealing rice. Now he is the lead fighter pilot, protecting said space colony from a race of shape-shifting space giants!

Reviews

"Compelling, subtle, spectacular and even funny, [Knights of Sidonia] is a yarn no adventure aficionados or sci-fi fanatics should miss." - Now Read This!

"With strong, bold line work, an eye for detail and a fantastic sense for world-building, Knights of Sidonia is a science-fiction story with some intriguing twists on those well-worn story tropes... Nihei's thoughtful treatment and measured approach to his artwork makes this a whole new experience" - NEO Magazine (U.K.)

"Oh, that look. Im not the greatest connoisseur of manga art, but theres just something about Tsutomu Niheis style that pushes my buttons in a big way. I LOVE the labyrinthine feel of the place, which reinforces Sidonias immensity. Doors, pipes, tubes, stairs, deep dark abysses I simply cannot get enough." - Manga Bookshelf's "Off the Shelf"

"To complement his expert art, Nihei gives his story some welcome strange touches, such as the spacesuits having a built-in catheter than automatically inserts itself into the wearer and we see the panels of Nagate shuddering as he experiences this for the first time... The Sidonia residents face the wrath of a tentacled (of course) monster that would give H.P. Lovecraft a boner, and the stakes are very real. Theres also a talking bear, and no one blinks." BookGasm

Author Bio

Tsutomu Nihei is an internationally known Japanese comic artist and draftsman. Born in 1971, Nihei made his debut in the comics world as the winner of the 1995 Afternoon Magazine Four Seasons Award for short stories. He then briefly worked as an assistant to veteran comicker Tsutomu Takahashi before making his break-through hit BLAME! (published by Tokyopop). The BLAME! franchise was so well received worldwide, that it inspired an animated mini-series and eventually drew the attention of Marvel Comics in the US. Nihei would later go on to draw Wolverine (X-Men) and HALO comics for Marvel to great fanfare. An architectural student, Nihei's early work were mainly wordless, relying on visuals and backgrounds to tell their stories. Now, his works are deeply rooted in hard science-fiction, as was seen in the multiple NY Times Bestselling books HALO- The Graphic Novel (published by Marvel Comics) and BIOmega (published by Viz Media).
