Description

When the disfigured Marwood Clay returns to his coastal village, he is shunned and feared by the residents for an unspeakable past crime.

While Marwood struggles to rebuild some semblance of life for himself, in a village where no other man came back from the war, the newly-arrived and enigmatic Dr. Robert Temple is building a strange house for himself, on the hill overlooking the town. When the men meet, suspicions and secrets begin to pile up between them. Clay is consumed by visions of a nightmarish past he cannot remember, Temple by visions of a future he cannot prevent.

And that's when a young boy vanishes on Christmas Day.

Reviews

"A great book, packed with some intriguing and exciting character work and a mystery that does not let up until the final pages. Martin Stiff has put together something special here." - The MacGuffin

"I was completely caught up in the story that Martin Stiff so adroitly created. And this is his very first graphic novel. God help me, I think I'm jealous of him." - Comics Bulletin

"This really is a unique story that demonstrates that comics can be much more than super powers and spandex." - Atomic Moo

"The naturalistic dialogue, intricate black and white pencils and Stiffs reverence for the time period from style to sayings are worth the price of admission, but its the sci fi twist that makes THE ABSENCE a true comic book as well as a great story." - Aint It Cool News

"Aworthwhile read for lovers of the dark and creepy." - Project Fandom

"This graphic novel has depth and is full of emotion, the art is exactly the way it needs to be, and the storyline is worthy of this novel and any future movie adaptations.." - Pop Cults

"Agreat comic book by first-timer Martin Stiff and everybody with mature comic sensibilities should read this!" - Retrenders
