Michael was always taken by the idea of love, a deep longing for what he believed to be the purpose of life. His desire manifested itself in various ways: for his family, for his friends, and for Anjali, the girl he meets at college.
But as his love blossoms for her, it reveals something inside him. Vivid hallucinations take hold of him, the world shifting and blurring, and Michael no longer knows what is real and what is not.
A journey through the spiritual lands of his people, a brief moment of hospitalisation, and a diagnosis of bipolar all lead Michael to where he is now.
Michael was born in Leeds in 1967, to parents who had immigrated from India to Britain. He read Philosophy and Economics at university and graduated with an MA in Continental Philosophy. He had his first psychotic breakdown in 1992, from which he made a full recovery. Michael went on to work as a researcher and radio producer at the BBC for more than a decade until a second psychotic episode from which he was diagnosed with bipolar II. Love and Other Gods is his debut.
