The American Academy of Pediatrics is an organization of 66,000 primary-care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists, and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety, and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. Joan Younger Meek, MD, MS, RD, FAAP, IBCLC, is a board-certified pediatrician, registered dietician, and international board-certified lactation consultant. She chairs the Section on Breastfeeding of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Her previous roles include serving as president of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine and chair of the United States Breastfeeding Committee. She is the mother of three children and grandmother of three children, all of whom were breastfed. She is passionate about helping mothers achieve their own breastfeeding goals and eliminating barriers that stand in their way.
