From the initial stages of pregnancy to the challenges of early parenthood, "Your Baby Is Not a Doll" highlights a variety of care needs for both expectant parents and newborns. This book emphasizes the reality that newborns are not dolls to be dressed up; rather, living beings requiring comprehensive preparation, both before and after birth. Knowing that there is not only one way to approach pregnancy, birth, and parenting, this book encourages first-time parents to explore what path is right for them while providing guidance along the way. It aims to empower readers to make informed decisions and to embrace the joys and responsibilities of parenthood.
Shayla is a certified, registered nurse originally from Birmingham, Alabama. After completing her bachelor's degree in biology from Tennessee State University, Shayla slightly changed healthcare tracks and completed an accelerated nursing degree program at Samford University, earning her second Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Shayla was quickly recognized among her peers as an exceptional nurse and was asked to train newly hired nurses. This experience opened Shayla's eyes to a great passion she didn't know existed: teaching. She acquired certifications in maternal-newborn nursing and lactation counseling. After a few years of bedside nursing, Shayla received her Master of Science in Nursing Education Degree from Walden University. Shayla's passion for teaching has helped shape novice and transitional nurses ready for practice in the world of maternal-newborn and obstetric nursing. She hopes to motivate and guide expectant parents on how to make informed decisions.
