Description

We all fear pain and we will do almost anything to avoid it. In The Meaning of Pain, renowned osteopath Nick Potter presents a radical new approach to treating chronic pain. He draws on insights from biology, evolution and social behaviour to help us understand why pain is essential to our survival, and how we can manage our experience of it. In this sage and enlightening book, drawing on 25 years of clinical experience and success stories from his consulting room, Potter presents a timely, compelling roadmap for wellbeing, showing us how to break the vicious cycle of stress, pain and anxiety before the damage is done.

Reviews

Potter applies his extensive expertise to helping readers understand the experience of suffering from pain, and shows them that there is a surprising amount they can do on their own to manage it.'
An excellent book that will equip readers with an ability to regain control.'
Makes the science of pain understandable, dispels the myths and emphasises the importance of recognising and dealing with stress in all its forms.'
Nick Potter is an exceptional osteopath, and has an extraordinary ability to instantly know what I have been doing wrong physically to cause me pain and then alleviate it.'
It's the funniest book of the year if your hair grows where it shouldn't and you've started making weird 'Nnaaaah' sounds every time you lower yourself into a comfy chair. Don't even contemplate growing old without it.' * The Times Magazine *
