Dating after fifty is a journey filled with distinct considerations compared to younger years. Retired Judge Alan King brings a wealth of knowledge and personal experience to this guide, exploring the complexities of relationships in midlife and beyond. Drawing from his nineteen years as a probate judge and a lifetime of navigating love, loss, and resilience, Alan highlights key factors to consider-emotional, practical, financial, and legal-when seeking meaningful connections.
After losing his wife of 32 years to a tragic hit-and-run accident, Alan endured a painful recovery alongside his daughter and later faced the challenges of remarriage. These life experiences inspired him to write this book, addressing the "long game" of relationships rather than fleeting encounters.
Whether you're over fifty or simply seeking wisdom for the road ahead, this book offers thoughtful guidance to help you approach love and happiness with intention and care.
Judge Alan King (retired) is an attorney and served as a probate judge in Jefferson County, Alabama, for more than nineteen years. Jefferson County is the largest county in Alabama. He began practicing law in Birmingham, Alabama in 1982. He was first elected as a judge in 2000 and retired in 2020.
Judge King was married for thirty-two years. His wife, Karen, was killed in a hit-and-run in Denver, Colorado, on Thanksgiving night, November 22, 2018, while she and Alan and their daughter were walking across an intersection. The driver of an automobile ran a red light and struck all three of them. Alan and his daughter were both severely injured and spent months in physical rehabilitation. He and his wife's son was in the United States Navy stationed in Japan. The driver was neither identified nor apprehended.
Alan decided to write this book to hopefully assist others in the dating and relationship process with some issues to consider as we search for love and happiness.
