Description

From Jason Redman, the former Navy SEAL andNew York Timesbestselling author ofThe Trident, writing with his wife, Erica, a battle-tested guide to marital bliss, drawing on the lessons of elite warriors to build a winning relationship, no matter the challenges and traumas that life sends your way. Featuring a foreword by Gary Sinise.

The divorce rate among Navy SEALs is over 90 percent, and the rate among severely wounded warriors is even higher. Erica and Jason Redman knew their marriage faced an uphill climb, because Jason is both.

In 2007, Jasons patrol was ambushed by a machine gunners nest in Iraq. Thirty-seven surgeries,1,200 stitches, and a grueling years-long rehab would follow. Despite all thatplus the daily demands of raising three children and running a successful business togetherJason and Ericas marriage has remained invincible.

Every day, you make choices that either build up your relationship or leave it exposed and vulnerable to attack. The highest-performing warrior teams pay attention to developing muscle-memory habits, and your marriage can benefit from the same focus.

InMission: Invincible Marriage, Jason and Erica share the tools they use to lay the foundational beliefs and communication skills a marriage needs to last for life. Each chapter helps readers develop a key tenet of successful relationship-building. Among them:

  • Commit to Friendship: The foundation of all successful marriages is genuine friendship
  • Support Each Others Dreams:Couples who establish a pattern of supporting each others dreams can thrive even when those dreams grow and change
  • Know When to Give Space:Learn to trust each other enough to give and take space when needed instead of resorting to passive-aggressive responses and stonewalling
  • Establish Rituals:Couples can strengthen their marriage by finding ways to invest in small shared actions that reflect and reinforce commitment
  • Face Conflict Together:Marital strength is not the absence of conflict but the ability to withstand and work through conflict

Drawing on their own experiences and the latest research in long-term interpersonal relationships,Mission: Invincible Marriageis a battle-tested guide to nurturing love, especially when the going gets tough.

Reviews

"This story is not just about a SEAL on the Iraqi battlefield, but a SEAL at war with himself, and his ultimate victory. [Redman's] story will inspire the reader, just as it did me." -- ROBERT M. GATES, former Secretary of Defense, from his Introduction to The Trident

"The Trident is a riveting, brutally honest and heartfelt story of an elite warrior's journey to hell and back. It's one of the best memoirs about love, combat and triumph against all odds that we've seen in a generation. This is a book that will both inspire and transform its readers." -- SEAN PARNELL, New York Times bestselling author of Outlaw Platoon

"I'm bleeding out. Jason Redman had me gripped from the first sentence of this emotionally charged memoir that recounts his rise, and fall, and rise again as a U.S. Navy SEAL. Coming from a community where reputation is everything, Redman has filled his pages not with bravado and ego, but honesty, grit and humility. It's a book all leaders and aspiring leaders should read; both military and civilian--not only for the heart-pounding ride-along into battle, but for the inspiring reminder that a warrior's strength and tenacity comes not from his physical stature but from his family and from within." -- ERIC BLEHM, New York Times bestselling author of Fearless, on The Trident

"Jason Redman is the real deal! He has 'been there, done that, ' and learned a lot along the way. If you want to know how to overcome adversity, how to be the best in challenging times, how to be professional throughout your life and career, then read this book! It's fabulous!" -- ADMIRAL WILLIAM MCRAVEN, New York Times bestselling author of Make Your Bed, on Overcome

"Challenging and inspiring! Jason Redman has experienced close encounters with the kind of adversity most of us can barely imagine, yet his prescription for avoiding self-pity and moving forward is supremely applicable for us all. A great read, and more importantly, great lessons for life." -- GENERAL STANLEY MCCHRYSTAL, former commander of US Armed Forces in Afghanistan and New York Times bestselling author of Team of Teams, on Overcome
