The unhoused population makes us uncomfortable. The natural tendency is to ignore and turn away from them. Yet, these are our fellow humans who have often been dehumanized because of their situation and vulnerabilities. It's a complex situation to explain to children and, so, the discomfort is perpetuated. This book attempts to provide context to a typical unhoused individual by a brief portrayal of the life that led him to the streets. The hope is that this story will foster compassion and understanding in our children for those that are less fortunate.
Dawn Francis is a mother of three children and a physician living in Florida. This is her first children's book created to provide context for children to the plight of the unhoused in the urban United States in an effort to foster compassion and understanding.
