During the 1920s, the Reds in Russia created laws aimed to deliberately starve thousands of their own citizens. Each family fought to keep their loved ones alive.
But if these laws threatened the lives of your family, would you come up with a way around them Even if that way that put your life in danger
"The Sweetest Thing: And Eight Bonus Stories" is the true story of a manauthor Rachim Baskin's grandfatherrisking his life for his wife and children. He must obtain enough flour so he and his family would not starve for one Russian winter.
Baskin learned the history from his father, and although his grandfather has passed on, this story and eight other slice-of-life stories live on in this inspiring tale of desperation, family, and the lengths we'll go for the ones we love.
The author, Rachim Baskin, is a performing and letter artist living in New Jersey.
The illustrator, Leonard Indig, is from Rockland County, New York. Since a young age, I have always had an extreme interest in drawing and painting, and as a result I forged ahead a path as an artist. I love the freedom it brings. I believe that there is a creative spark in everyone - they have only to find it .
